The Witness Committee is hoping to grow our “cookie team” to provide snacks, once a month, for the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings held in our building.

Wish Board

Wish Board

The Witness Committee and friends hosted a booth at Pittsburgh Pride for two days and asked visitors to write their wishes upon paper stars. We let them know we cared about the concerns they carry in their hearts, and they shared their hope—personal and global, heartfelt and humorous—with us. We gathered more than 100 stars on the first day and collected dozens more on the second day.

Sunset Prayers for June

Sunset Prayers for June

Our sunset prayers for June will be lifted with Pastor Russel in mind. His influence will be inescapable. At sunset on June 7, at about 8:48 p.m., from wherever you are, inviting anyone who is with you, let’s pause and pray together for inclusiveness.

Prayer has a new address: prayers@sewickleyumc.org

The SUMC Witness Committee has created an Email address for anyone—our church family, our friends and neighbors, and beyond—to submit prayer requests. Committee members will monitor the inbox throughout the day and respond with prayer.

The Pittsburgh Blessing

The Pittsburgh Blessing

What started out as a crazy idea, turned into a powerful worship moment in our city. In less than 2 weeks, nearly 30 churches unified to sing a blessing over our city of Pittsburgh. This video was revealed during many of the Easter online services in churches across the city of Pittsburgh during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sunset Prayer Suggestion

Sunset Prayer Suggestion

Unprecedented circumstances suggest unprecedented prayer, so I am suggesting a mid-week sunset prayer from wherever you are, or whenever you find this note and feel moved.

March to Unite

The Pan Methodist Council of Western Pennsylvania is joining with several faith-based organizations and social groups to organize Western Pennsylvania’s first annual “March to Unite” on September 7th.

What Kind of Christian are You?

What Kind of Christian are You?

I was ready for the question as I stood with Laura G. at our SUMC table on the Andy Warhol Bridge on the first day of Pride weekend in Pittsburgh. I had been advised that some in the LGBTQ+ community wouldn’t want churches sharing in their celebration. Many had been hurt and frustrated and abandoned by churches.

A Way Forward (Regarding the Upcoming February Special General Conference of the United Methodist Church)

The Special Session of the General Conference was called to receive and act on a report from the 32-member Commission on a Way Forward, which was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality, propose possible revisions, and explore options to strengthen the unity of the church.
