When I hear the phrase “peace-loving,” I picture a hippie standing with their fingers in a v formation chanting their conviction to “make love, not war”. Though many self-professed hippies were pacifists, their movement was not a passive one. Like many other movements, such as the civil rights movement, they took to the streets to demand political and socio-cultural change. In the same way, when James says, “wisdom that comes from heaven is… peace-loving,” we should not underestimate the strength of God’s spirit to create that peace she loves so much. Like so many powerful movements that brought about change, Sophia is non-violent, AND she is a force to be reckoned with.
