SUMC is gearing up for our third annual trip to Creation Fest in Mt. Union, PA, one of the largest Christian Music Festivals in the nation with headlining acts like Crowder, Tenth Avenue North, Mandisa, and Skillet. Creation Fest 2019 will be Wednesday, June 26th through Saturday, June 29th. The main group will plan to leave Wednesday late morning and return on Sunday, June 30th by early afternoon. Everyone is welcome to come with us, but we especially encourage the youth to attend this fun week of Christian music, fellowship, and worship.
On Saturday, December 15th, The Olive Branch, a fair trade shop, run in part by Salem UMC, will bring a pop-up store to Sewickley UMC. From 9 am to noon, you may purchase items from the display in the Simpson Room.
Moms and Dads, why not let us watch your kids for a few hours on December 1 as you take time for Christmas shopping, decorating, or baking? We will host the children in the church nursery and basement classrooms from 11 am (after the Santa parade) until 4 pm.
If you ordered a wreath, it can be picked up after each service this coming Sunday at the parsonage garage. There are also extra Victorian, Cranberry, and Wintergreen wreaths, mini trees, and a centerpiece available at $30 each, and a Classic wreath for $25. If you would like one of the extras, please let Kelly Herman or Pastor Russel know. Proceeds benefit the General Fund.
A Thanksgiving worship service will be held this Sunday evening at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary.
The Sewickley United Methodist Women agreed to donate some rummage sale household items to a family setting up their own home in Mooncrest, a Moon Township low income housing area. The family is very grateful for the pots, pans, dishware, utensils, toaster oven, and kitchen linens.
$1,000 was sent to The Tree of Life Synagogue along with a letter of support. Please continue to pray for the congregation and community.
The Special Session of the General Conference was called to receive and act on a report from the 32-member Commission on a Way Forward, which was authorized by General Conference 2016 and appointed by the Council of Bishops to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality, propose possible revisions, and explore options to strengthen the unity of the church.
Teams are forming for 2019 mission trips to Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Bahamas, Louisiana, and Zimbabwe. The age requirements vary, as do the costs. VIMships (Volunteer in Mission grants) may be available.
UMCOR (UMC Relief Agency) and its partners are responding to disasters both in the United States and around the world. Please join in prayer for the areas affected, and consider a gift to UMCOR Disaster Response, which you may do with your regular offering or via EasyTithe, marking “UMCOR.” If you wish to specify “domestic” or “international”, please do so.
Thank you! Not only did the congregation pack 13 bags to help patrons of the food pantry prepare Thanksgiving dinner, the congregation fully funded the $15 gift card provided with each. Thank you for helping the Sewickley Community Center Food Pantry have complete Thanksgiving dinners.
As is our annual tradition, we will once again provide gifts to the preschool and after-school children of Bethany House. Please see Pam Honeychurch in the Simpson Room on Sunday after each service to claim a child you would like to sponsor.
SUMC is heading to Creation Fest again this summer! Join us for four days of Christian music, speakers, fellowship, and camping in Mt. Union, PA.
To help patrons of the Sewickley Community Center Food Pantry prepare Thanksgiving dinner, Outreach is asking that you fill a grocery bag with the non-perishable items that are traditionally used at Thanksgiving.
Kids! Join us to be a part of An Incredible Christmas for our kids pageant this year.
Pastor Russel will host the 13th annual Church Family Thanksgiving Dinner in the Simpson Room next Saturday, November 10, at 6 pm.
Everyone is welcome as we’ll gather in the church parlor tomorrow, Saturday, November 3 at 6 pm to watch & discuss “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” a 1967 American comedy-drama film starring Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier and Katharine Hepburn.
The UMW is having a rummage sale next weekend (Nov 9 & 10). Your donations of clean, fresh clothing, books, kitchen items, white elephant items, and household goods are much appreciated, but please no computers, electronic components, large pieces of furniture, or exercise equipment. All proceeds support UMW mission projects on the local, national, and international levels.
In light of the horrific tragedy that happened at the Tree of Life Synagogue, Sewickley UMC is accepting a designated special offering to forward to the Tree of Life to use at its discretion in its recovery.
