Our church has skeletons in its closets. You also might find them being gnawed by plague rats, laying around in Jack the Ripper’s alley, or in Lizzi Borden’s dining room. SUMC’s 2018 Haunted House will take you back to the victorian era for a ripping good time, starting this weekend.

VIM recognizes the important work of putting Christian love into action across the globe. The special offering on October 21st is designated for work within WPAUMC. To give, include your additional gift with your regular offering, marking VIM; or you may use EasyTithe via the web or the app, again indicating VIM on your gift.
In order to offset costs of our camps and retreat centers, WPAUMC churches are asked to take a special Camping Sunday offering. The Bishop’s Camping and Retreat Initiative has also launched, with the campaign coming to local churches beginning in January 2019.
On October 14th, at either service, your well-behaved pets on a leash or in a carrier may receive a blessing.
Ladies are invited to meet at 7pm in the parlor on Wednesday, October 10th, to decide the direction of the Book Club for this year.
Our monthly Salad Luncheon is this Thursday, October 4 from 11 am to 1 pm. Proceeds support the General Fund. Please consider donating your homemade salads for the salad luncheons, as the luncheons are very popular, and we need a good spread to feed the faithful supporters of our luncheons.
The grocery cart will be in the sanctuary for October’s collection on October 28th, but you may bring items at any time and place in the cart in the hallway across from the restrooms.
Come join the 2nd annual hayride on Saturday, October 13th, at 6 pm, at Bill and Sandy Kuriger’s home (91 Hill Road, Sewickley). There will be lots of fun for kids and adults. Look for the sign up sheet in the back of the sanctuary. There’s no cost; just sign up to bring a snack. Call Sandy for information.
This is the first year SUMC will serve a public dinner to kick off autumn. Please come on Saturday, October 6th from 5-7 pm. Bring friends for a traditional homemade roast pork, sausage, and sauerkraut dinner with potatoes, Haluski, homemade desserts, Bavarian pretzels, and beverages.
Saturday, September 29, at around 10:00 am, the pumpkins arrive! As you know, many hands make light work, and we need as many able-bodied souls as we can get to unload our precious cargo and turn our church lawn into a sea of orange.

The mission of 412 Food Rescue is to prevent perfectly good food from entering the waste stream. One of the ways that 412 Food Rescue does that by utilizing volunteers, who pick up food donations from food retailers and deliver the food to non-profit partners. Additionally, 412 Food Rescue takes part in gleans at local farms.

The Pittsburgh District of the United Methodist Church, of which Sewickley UMC is part of, has a new District Superintendent, Rev. Dawn M. Hand. Her installation service is Saturday, September 15, 1 pm at St. Paul’s UMC (1965 Ferguson Rd, Allison Park). Everyone is welcome to attend.
