Fellowship of the Cross
Our SUMC tradition has been to deliver gift bags to the shut-in members of our family as we go Christmas caroling on a Sunday after church in December. We can’t go caroling this year, but we can provide gift bags to share Christmas and the love of Jesus. The Fellowship of the Cross youth is collecting contributions for the gift bags through the morning of Saturday, December 12.
The Fellowship of the Cross is taking orders for custom-made bracelets to raise additional funds for Operation Christmas Child and other projects. The bracelets cost $10 each and include wording of your choice, as well as your choice of color of disc and cord.
Because it seems unlikely that we will be gathering for worship in November, the Fellowship of the Cross will not be selling Christmas gifts from Ornaments 4 Orphans this year.
Once again, we will be collecting any unused Halloween candy, as well as microwave popcorn, hot chocolate mixes, and Starbucks gift cards, to send to our college kids during exams. In addition to items for the boxes, we also need your college kids’ updated mailing addresses, along with their exam schedule for this year, so that we can send them care packages right before their exams start.
We’ve just learned there is a minimum number of donuts FOTC needs to sell in order to qualify for this fundraising opportunity. They need to sell an additional 12 dozen over what has already been ordered to qualify. This Sunday is the deadline for orders. Wouldn’t you like some yummy, fresh, glazed donuts and to support this wonderful cause?

The Fellowship of the Cross (FOTC) is selling Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnuts to those who pre-order them by Sunday, October 11, to help raise money to ship our shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
The Fellowship of the Cross kids (FOTC) will host the Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing opportunities in the Simpson Room on Saturday, October 24th, from 10 am to 4 pm and again on Sunday, October 25th, from 1 pm to 5 pm.
The Fellowship of the Cross youth have launched our 10th annual Operation Christmas Child campaign. FOTC hasn’t set a goal for 2020, and we’re not sure that safe distancing protocols will allow for a packing party in late September, but we will persist through the uncertainty.
The Fellowship of the Cross youth have launched our 10th annual Operation Christmas Child campaign. Church family has combined to fill 900 boxes in the past nine years, at least 100 in each of the past eight years.
We, the Fellowship of the Cross and the Sunday school team, are re-imagining our flower-planting tradition at SUMC, and we need your help. Every year, we dedicate our final children and youth Sunday school classes in May to planting flowers around the church campus. Those flowers reflect His love and His light well into October and often continue sharing their message as pumpkins sit on our lawn. This year, as we cannot yet gather to worship, we have a new flower-planting plan: we are inviting families to come to church and plant flowers this weekend.
FOTC is collecting new underwear for girls in Africa (girls sizes 10-16 & women’s sizes 5-7) to accompany feminine hygiene kits they will also receive so they can continue to go to school. The collection basket is in the back of the sanctuary. Financial donations are also welcome for FOTC to purchase for you. Thanks for your help!
FOTC will lead a Christmas caroling mission to the shut-in members of our church family on December 15th.
Fellowship of the Cross has a number of opportunities for mission and outreach this holiday season.
Fellowship of the Cross (FOTC) is collecting names and addresses of college students from our church family and extended families, including graduate and commuter students. Please share your college student’s address with FOTC at fotc@sewickleyumc.org or the office at secretary@sewickleyumc.org.
Drop it in FOTC’s box in the narthex. The FOTC will include it in the care packages they will send to college students just in time for finals.
Please join the Fellowship of the Cross THIS SUNDAY, September 29 between the worship services when 100 boxes will be filled. Everyone is invited to join us and pack some boxes.
As we move toward our packing party in late September, our SUMC 2019 Operation Christmas Child campaign has some urgent needs and some less urgent needs. The Fellowship of the Cross youth are asking our church family to consider making a contribution, or another contribution, to help fill the boxes. The urgent needs include toothbrushes, bars of soap, pencil sharpeners, and stuffed animals or baby dolls that fit easily into a shoebox.
FOTC is offering a free car wash in the SUMC parking lot from 10 am until 2 pm, SATURDAY, AUGUST 3. Donations will be accepted to help cover shipping costs for our shoeboxes. The cost of shipping each box is $9, which includes Bible learning materials and classes, which are offered to each child who receives a shoebox.
