We, the Fellowship of the Cross and the Sunday school team, are re-imagining our flower-planting tradition at SUMC, and we need your help. Every year, we dedicate our final children and youth Sunday school classes in May to planting flowers around the church campus. Those flowers reflect His love and His light well into October and often continue sharing their message as pumpkins sit on our lawn. This year, as we cannot yet gather to worship, we have a new flower-planting plan: we are inviting families to come to church and plant flowers this weekend. Andrea Lewis brought us flowers. Pamela Mayo and Gracie Rogansky are developing plans and protocols to match flowers to the available plots. We have shovels. We need your energy and your fingers wiggling in the soil.

To respect safe-distancing protocols, we are asking families to reserve a two-hour window on Saturday or Sunday, beginning on an even-numbered hour: 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon… throughout the days. You can plant anytime during your window without worrying about safe-distance issues… if weather interferes and all the flowers don’t get planted, no problem. We will extend planting time into next week, and you can choose a new time to plant, if you want to… you may invite anyone to share your window with you, as you are comfortable. You can bring your tools.

To reserve a time, email (utterbac@earthlink.net) or text (412-913-6251) me (Bill Utterback). You will receive instruction after you reserve a time.

Thank you for your consideration,
Bill Utterback
