Something new is coming to our sanctuary, and we’re excited to share it with you!

As part of our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive church community, our Neurodiversity Support Ministry is all set to launch an initial wave of supports within the sanctuary.

Mother’s Day service is our launch date! You will notice meaningful changes designed to support individuals with sensory sensitivities, including a quiet space in the back of the sanctuary that will help provide opportunity for sensory reduction, while remaining a part of worship. Tools will be available for use both in or outside of the calm corner to include noise reduction headphones and weighted blankets.

Improving communication is also a part of our frontline supports. You will notice a picture schedule as you enter the back of the sanctuary, as well as picture Bibles, social stories, and communication cards and boards available in the calm corner. Stay tuned for our upcoming presence on the SUMC website in May as well!

These introductory supports are intended to help all members of our congregation engage more fully in worship. We appreciate your openness and support as we take these important first steps toward ensuring that everyone feels comfortable, valued, and able to participate.
