Is this the last month of summer? Do the kids go back to school in a couple of weeks? Time does fly! It is a good thing we are not sending the kids back unprepared! We are ushering in the final countdown of summer with Vacation Bible School. We will gather at the church August 3rd through the 6th with our siblings in Christ from St. Matthews AME Zion Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The kids will be well equipped with the building blocks of their faith that they can take with them into this new school year ahead. I am so grateful to all of you who have given of your time and resources to make VBS a success and to pour into these kids’ lives!

Beyond the building blocks of faith, we will be blessing those who are headed back to school and all the supplies and hopes and fears they take with them. We will remind them at the Sunday service on August 17th that they don’t go alone. This blessing will include the entire group of people responsible for making educational opportunities happen!

Meanwhile, back at church, we are adding to the education team. We will be welcoming Violet Murphey as a part of the staff at Sewickley UMC. She will be filling a brand-new position, which we are calling the Coordinator of Christian Education. She will be helping to support the Education Committee and the Leadership Board as we continue to grow and live into who God is calling us to be. As disciple makers, Violet will help to coordinate those opportunities for all ages that exist within our church and beyond our walls.

I hope that you can take that vacation, find that place of peace even if you can’t take that vacation, and soak up the sun. Take some quiet moments to commune with God and appreciate all that this summer season has brought and will bring. I am grateful to get to continue to serve Jesus alongside you!

From one light to another,
Pastor Hannah Loughman
