I love to talk a lot about the strength of our community and the strength of doing things together. But sometimes, we are called and convicted to stand alone. When I am with my kids, I refuse to cross the street if the walk signal has not yet appeared. Even though it might be safe to do so, I know they are watching, and I don’t want to set them up for failure; I want to set them up for success. This is creating a precedent of doing what is right even when it’s lonely, so they don’t choose to do what is wrong, because that’s what most are doing. Even in the small things, when others are learning, it matters.
