During the coming weeks while we are in the "Yellow Zone," a very limited number of people (approximately 20) will be able to be present in the sanctuary as the sermon is recorded. For more information and to RSVP click here.
What started out as a crazy idea, turned into a powerful worship moment in our city. In less than 2 weeks, nearly 30 churches unified to sing a blessing over our city of Pittsburgh. This video was revealed during many of the Easter online services in churches across the city of Pittsburgh during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holy Week services are posted here on our website. For those who enjoy following and participating in the liturgy, the bulletins are provided with each service. The Easter bulletins also include the Prayer List and Easter “Flower” Dedications.
This year, we won't be together to celebrate Easter, and the chancel won’t be adorned with beautiful Easter flowers. But, if you would like to make a “virtual dedication,” fill out the form here no later than Tuesday, April 7. There is no cost, and there won’t be any actual flowers. The dedications will be shared with our SUMC Church Family for the Easter service.
Until we are able to gather as a church again for worship, beginning this Sunday at 10 am, visit our website (sewickleyumc.org) for a blended 4th Sunday of Lent Worship Service, brought to us thanks to Pastor Russel, Leap of Faith, and Matt McTeague. The service will also be available on the church’s Facebook page. For those who enjoy following and participating in the liturgy, the bulletin is available here.
If you would like to purchase flowers to adorn the chancel on Easter Sunday, please complete this form and mail or bring to the church. The order deadline is March 29. If we are not able to hold Easter services, refunds will be given.
In light of the COVID-19 epidemic, the church building will be closed for at least the next two Sundays (March 22 & 29). But the church is not a building; the church is not a steeple or a clocktower. No, the church is the people, and the people of Sewickley UMC will be providing a service online. Please watch our homepage Sunday morning.
Our church family is joining with St. Matthews AME Zion, St. Paul’s Lutheran, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, and Emsworth United Presbyterian Churches for dinner, fellowship, and services on Sunday evenings during Lent. Sunday’s potluck dinner (6 pm) and service (7 pm) are at SUMC.
Be prepared to lose an hour of sleep this Saturday night as we spring forward and start Daylight Savings Time.
Ash Wednesday dinner and worship will be observed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 26, at Sewickley UMC, when we come together with St. Matthews AME Zion, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, and Emsworth Presbyterian Churches. The evening will begin with our traditional meatless meal at 6 pm; please bring a meatless side dish or salad to share. Fish and macaroni and cheese will be provided. The service will begin at 7 pm.
Everyone is invited to attend the Special Combined Miracle Sunday Worship Service on December 22 at 10 am, followed by the Victory Brunch in the Simpson Room.
On December 22, we will have 1 combined service at 10 am, followed by a Victory Brunch in the Simpson Room.
Ecumenical Advent worship services will be hosted at three churches, including our own, with pastors exchanging pulpits. Each service will be followed by light fellowship.
If you would like to order any poinsettia plants to adorn the chancel for Christmas, please complete an order form found in the rear of the sanctuary, and return it to the office or place in the offering plate with your payment. You may also call the office. Orders are due by noon on Sunday, December 8. Dedications will be included in the Christmas Eve bulletin and in the January Newsletter. If you purchase a poinsettia, you will be able to take it home after the Traditional Service on Christmas Eve.
An ecumenical Thanksgiving worship service will be held here at SUMC on Sunday evening at 6 pm with Rev. Ryan Kovert from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church bringing the message. A free will offering will be received to benefit the Sewickley Community Center Foodbank.
There will be a gathering of all children 5th grade and younger who are interested in participating in this year’s Christmas Pageant on Sunday following the 11:00 service in the sanctuary. Those children who are unable to attend but interested in participating, please see Pastor Russel.
All Saints’ Day is a day of remembrance for the saints. During both services this Sunday, November 3, we will celebrate the communion of saints, as we remember those who transitioned to life eternal, both from the Church universal and our local congregation. Following the 11 am service, a luncheon will be held in the Simpson Room. Donations are needed of side dishes and salads. Main course and dessert will be provided. Help with cleanup is also needed. Contact Sandy Kuriger or Belinda Resler. Everyone is welcome to attend.
New members will be received on October 27 during both services. If you would like to officially join Sewickley UMC, please let Pastor Russel or the office know.
VIM recognizes the important work of putting Christian love into action across the globe. The special offering on October 20th is designated for work within WPAUMC. To give, include your additional gift with your regular offering or EasyTithe, marking “VIM”.
