Our Young Adult Bible Study Group started in January 2026 and has been meeting every other week. We’ve had a great six months together, and here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to!
What We’ve Been Learning
We’ve been using free podcasts from the Bible Project as our main guide. Here’s what we’ve covered so far:
How the Bible works — Using the “How to Read the Bible” podcast series, we learned the literary techniques the Biblical authors used and how the Bible, both as a compilation and its component individual books, were composed. A specific focus was on how the Bible’s stories, poems, and themes connect to each other.
Ancient history and creation — We looked at how people in the ancient Near East understood creation through the “Ancient Cosmology” podcast series. Here, we learned how the stories in Genesis compare to the creation stories of ancient Israel’s neighboring cultures.
Reading Genesis together — We read through the entire book of Genesis and discovered some really interesting patterns using the “Genesis Scroll” podcast series, like (1) that each generation tends to amplify and repeat the mistakes of the one before it, and (2) that the Adam & Eve and Joseph stories are structurally and symbolically mirrored stories that serve as literary bookends for Genesis.
What’s Next
We’re taking a summer break but will be back in August. We plan to continue reading through the Bible, resuming with Exodus and the “Exodus Scroll” podcast series… but may take a detour to the “Chaos Dragon” podcast series first!
