We will host our “Garden Project” VBS from July 26 through July 29, beginning each evening at 6:00 pm. We offer programming in three age groups: pre-K, grades K through 5, and middle school (entering grades 6 through 8). Anybody beyond eighth grade can be a gardener.

We need to grow our preschool team. This opportunity has drawn more children every year, and we need more people to love them, to listen to them, to lead them. See Grace if you have room in your heart for preschoolers.

We need squad leaders and assistants for our K-5 groups. We often go with K-1, 2-3, and 4-5 as our age groups, but those designations depend upon registration numbers. This age group’s energy, imagination, and willingness to participate is extraordinary. They need love and encouragement, too. For more information, see Mr. Bill.

The middle school group is also expecting a growth spurt. They are the absolute best at welcoming new people, students, and adults into their circle. If you have room in your heart for middle schoolers, see Felicity.

There are a variety of positions available beyond team leadership. Our rotations include Bible stories, music, recreation, snacks, and mission/crafts. We have decorating opportunities. See VBS co-coordinators Anneliese Perry, Lauren Roebuck, or Bill; Education Coordinator Mandy Williams; or Pastor Hannah to explore.

Water our garden!

This past weekend, Ed and Heather Cymbalak brought more than 20 pots of tomatoes and peppers to church. The pots are painted in rainbow colors and sitting on the church sidewalks on the Thorn St. side of the building, where they get wonderful morning sun. They were grown from seed by Surrae Shield. This is part of our Community VBS “Garden Project.” Our VBS mission is to share whatever we produce!

But the plants need watered, and SUMC Education Coordinator Mandy Williams has created a signup tool that provides daily opportunities to tend to the plants. She has provided details in the introduction. I've watered the plants, and it is, at most, a 20-minute job. Here is the link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0844AEAB2DA7FD0-64181717-garden#/
