On October 5th, SUMC will join with other United Methodist congregations to observe World Communion Sunday and to celebrate the unity and diversity of the universal Christian community.

Embracing this commitment, United Methodists are dedicated to nurturing diverse leadership within the church by allocating funds for scholarships and leadership training for underrepresented students. A special offering will be collected to fund scholarships and leadership training programs for young scholars and seminarians.

Half of the funds collected will go toward scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students of color pursuing ordained ministry. Thirty-five percent of the funds collected will provide grants to support in-service training for the recruitment, training, and retention of people of color in leadership roles across all levels of church ministry. The remaining fifteen percent will support leadership development among partner churches and communities in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and communities of color in the U.S.

You can donate through your regular offering or eGiving (please designate “World Communion”).
