SUMC Volunteers at Northview Heights Free Produce Distribution

Every Saturday morning, Northside Food Pantry Advisors sponsors a free produce distribution to help ensure nutritional security to Northview Heights, a neighborhood in need. The consistent availability of fresh food allows families the opportunity to plan, eat well, and improve their health. NFPA relies on volunteers from various groups to distribute the produce.

SUMC volunteers now distribute at Northview Heights quarterly. In 2025, we distributed on February 15th and May 10th. The first was during a snow storm but all our volunteers braved the weather and arrived safely. The second was the day before Mother’s Day. We were able to provide fresh fruits and vegetables and wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day.

The neighborhood of Northview Heights includes many Somali families and senior citizens. On average, we serve 40 families, including about 120 children. If you are interested in helping, email me. I will add you to our email list. The next date for SUMC volunteers is Saturday, August 2. I am thankful for the terrific group of reliable, friendly, and committed volunteers from SUMC. We are blessed by this opportunity to help others.
