In case you didn't know… The B&M team is made up of church members who volunteer their time and skills to oversee the maintenance, upkeep, and improvements in the church building, the parsonage, and grounds. Unless a contractor is mentioned, all work is performed by a team member or friends of the B&M team.

The B&M team includes: Sandra Lane, Greg Lane, Bill Kuriger (all 3 serving as Co-chairs), and Mark Wiggins, Ray Pluechel, Alan Honeychurch (team members) and Jenine Furry (friend of B&M).

Here’s what we’ve done from January to June:

  • We had a higher than normal frequency of snow removal work this season. This snow removal is contracted by DeGori landscaping and covers a clearing of the parking lot, all sidewalks, stairs, and spreading ice melt.

  • This old building settles each year creating cracks on the walls throughout. Repairs with joint compound, primer, and paint are performed regularly as needed.

  • May/June allowed us to weed and apply a fresh layer of mulch on the property.

  • The playground fence has been power washed.

  • This month, the playground will receive a fresh layer of mulch (45 yards!!) This is a wonderful opportunity for our church family to pitch in and help Trustees with a task. We worship together but it’s a good time when we can get out of the pews and work alongside each other. Please mark your calendars for June 21, if you want to help out. Text or call Sandra at 412-841-7169.

  • The Learning Tree preschool removed the carpet covering half the room and replaced it with laminate commercial flooring. Kunzelman Flooring did the work, and the expense was covered by the preschool.

  • Johnson Controls performed their annual inspection of smoke and fire alarms.

  • Both lower level bathrooms received a facelift with fresh paint on the walls, doors, floor, brighter lighting, and new accessories.

  • Thanks to a grant award, we were able to hire Phillips Stone masonry to repair various foundational and concrete cracks throughout the property.

  • Sewickley Fire Chief Quinn performed a general safety walk through. At his suggestion, we replaced all batteries in fire exit signs, which engage the flood lights if the power were to go out (13 signs total).

  • Frederick & Sons handles our boiler maintenance with visits twice per year and will come in when we have an immediate issue that requires attention.

  • KB Plumbing helped clear out a downspout causing a leak and did some parsonage work.

  • Columbia gas inspection took place in April, and we passed.

  • We budgeted the refurbishment of one door for this year. Door #2 was taken off the hinges and brought to the Final Touch Inc workshop in Turtlecreek. A temporary replacement closure was put in its place. On April 17, door #2 was returned and installed. The work included stripping, repair, wood fill, and then an application of several coats of marine grade sealer to protect against sun exposure. The door hardware was cleaned, polished, and brought back to its original state. The door frame refurbishment for this door has been completed in May. All that remains is the threshold, which is slated for completion by the end of the month.

  • After 25+ years, the parsonage fence is getting replaced.

  • Starting in June, the lower level children’s bathrooms are slotted for a facelift. Kevin Schiemer has volunteered to paint a fun mural on the wall and stall doors. The other work will come from B&M members and will include new sinks, mirrors, towel dispenser, fresh coat of floor paint, and paint on entry doors.
