The Sewickley United Methodist Church family is taking another step toward making the “good news of great joy” accessible “to all the people” (Luke 2:10). Our new Neurodiversity Support Team will begin providing sensory kits in the sanctuary area for our 2025 Christmas Eve services.

The kits will include hand-held fidget tools that some neurodiverse persons find helpful for channeling energy and extending focus. We will have signage pointing you toward the kits. The sensory tools are returnable and will be cleaned after every service. There is no registration involved. Take what you need and return it as you leave. In the new year, the Neurodiversity Support Team hopes to make tools such as noise-reduction headphones and weighted blankets available.

We are working to become more aware and prepared to embrace, encourage, and engage the neurodiverse members of our families and communities. We see this as an important and impactful component of being an inclusive church, as well as an opportunity to see the love and light of Jesus moving in the energy and imagination of neurodiverse people.
