It started with an idea: what if some of the unsold items from the Rummage Sale for Missions were taken to Northview Heights and made available for free to the residents? In August, our second such “Free Sale” took place when a van packed full of household and kitchen items, along with shoes, clothing, coats, toys, bedding, and other assorted items were offered for free to anyone who wanted them. Both “sales” were a huge success, and the customers were very thankful. Northview Heights is the largest low-income neighborhood in Allegheny County, and the United Methodist Church Union has an over 50-year history of offering services in the community. Over the years, Sewickley UMC has partnered with Church Union through ministries in Northview Heights and now, thanks to leftover donations from the SUMC Rummage Sale for Missions, a new ministry has been born.
