I just want to say thank you for the birthday wishes and cards.

Thanks,

Dear Friends in Mission,

The dear people you just helped with your gift to UMCOR may never have the opportunity to meet you, but if they did, I am certain their response would be — Thank you!

Since 1940, UMCOR has served as the humanitarian agency of The United Methodist Church, providing disaster response and relief to areas impacted by natural and man-made disasters around the world. And through your financial support, you are serving within a vital network of interactive relationships as UMCOR responds to increasingly-frequent and destructive storms—sharing 100% of donated funds with those in need!

Together, may we continue to reveal the love of God for men, women, and children of all ethnic, racial, cultural, and national backgrounds and to demonstrate genuine love for our neighbors.

Grace and Peace,
Roland Fernandes, General Secretary

Dear Sewickley United Methodist Church,

Thank you for your contribution to the people of San Jose del Negrito! Your gift will ensure that our Honduran neighbors continue to grow in health and well-being. Your gifts help to support our 3 staff members (physician, dentist, nurse), as well as to provide medicines and other supplies that enable the clinic to function effectively.

Covid arrived in San Jose, and our staff ably met the challenge. The entire region also was lashed by hurricanes Eta and Iota in the Fall of 2020, causing widespread flooding and mudslides. Through your contributions, the staff provided care and meds not only for their usual patients, but they also traveled outside of the community to provide care where desperately needed. Covid precautions made it necessary to cancel our Fall 2020 medical brigade, but a pared-down group of 6 medical providers did travel to Honduras in February 2021. Board members Dr. Randy Kolb and Dr. Mark Meyer traveled with this team, assisting and encouraging our incredible clinic staff in their excellent work. We also delivered medications to allow for the seamless ongoing work of these talented providers. Dr. Castillo voiced great thanks for the support, PPE, medications, and also for the ability to travel to outlying flood-devastated areas to provide relief (4 different trips). Dr. Osorio’s work continues in the dental suite, and she is using this COVID time to provide preventive dental care and education to the children and mothers in the asthma program and the First 1,000 Days Nutrition program.

We offer you the sincere gratitude of the San Jose clinic staff, the Health Committee there that guides their work, and the Shoulder to Shoulder Pittsburgh partners and Board of Directors.

Sincerely,
Mark W. Meyer, MD
President, Shoulder to Shoulder Pittsburgh
