United Women in Faith

The United Methodist Women have a new name: United Women in Faith. According to information found in the March/April edition of “Response” magazine, in our 150 years of supporting mission work, our organization has had more than 25 names, and now we have another new one. The name “United Methodist Women” was adopted in 1972, signaling a change not only in the life of the church, but in the lives of women and how they could organize for mission. We are again facing a change in the life of the church and in how women live and choose to engage the world in faith. It is again time to take on a new name. Beginning this year, the United Methodist Women will call ourselves “United Women in Faith.”

The United Women in Faith is still the only official women’s organization of the United Methodist Church. The legal name will remain United Methodist Women while operating as United Women of Faith, similar to the time the Women’s Division (one of our other 25 names) changed to United Methodist Women. Changes to the bylaws allow for women to be involved and be leaders in our organization, even if they become affiliated with another denomination. Our new name makes our organization more inclusive. More information may be found at uwfaith.org and in the March/April edition of Response magazine. Contact Kristine Swaney (412-741-2092 or kswaney1951@gmail.com) with questions, if any.
