Taking it to the Streets
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20

The Witness Ministry is another giving and serving arm of the church. The focus here is reaching outside our church walls to our community and welcoming them into our church.

Annual Street Carnival Experience the excitement of an old-time carnival right here in the village of Sewickley! Every summer, we close Thorn Street between Walnut and Broad Streets and erect tents containing fun for everyone. The main stage showcases live bands, covering various musical genres, and features our own praise band, Leap of Faith. Past entertainment has included performances from visiting dance troops, the Bethany House drummers, and students from Pittsburgh Rogers CAPA. Delicious foods, like pierogies, sausage and peppers, and nachos, keep the crowd from going hungry, and sweet treats, such as snow cones, frozen dipped bananas, and ice cream, keep things cool.

Children have a ball jumping in the bounce house, and everyone enjoys playing our many carnival games for prizes, trying their luck at the cake walk, balloon animals, face painting, hair braiding, or taking silly photos in the photo booth. We're still trying to talk the pastor into taking a turn in the dunk tank. This is a wonderful outreach event that we enjoy sharing with our community, and we hope you will join us.

Read more about it on our carnival page. Check out all the photos from the 2009 and 2010 carnivals, and watch the video from 2009.

Light-Up Night Sewickley's Light-Up Night ushers in the Christmas season each year, and SUMC opens its doors, inviting everyone to come in out of the cold. A live nativity scene, carol singing, and cookies will help you focus on the reason for the season. View photos and read more about it on our Light-Up Night page.

Annual Turkey Dinner How would you like a turkey dinner with all the trimmings for $1.75? Would you believe that's what it cost in 1952? Our oldest, continuing, community activity is the Annual Turkey Dinner, held every February. We prepare about 600 meals, including take-out orders. The profits from the dinner are utilized to support many church programs. However, it is the fellowship shared among servers and partakers alike that gives everyone a common sense of community. You can read more about this year's dinner on our Annual Turkey Dinner page.
