Our Church's Heritage...

The year 1837 saw the Society of Shields and Sewickleyville families unite to form the Methodist Society of Sewickleyville.  A log building at Blackburn Avenue and Division Street served as a meeting place.

In 1839, a 30' x 40' frame church was erected at the present location. A charter was obtained in 1852 and the first brick church was dedicated in 1855.  Thirteen years later, the first parsonage was built on the lot next to the church.  The new sanctuary, including the clock tower, was dedicated in 1884, and a new parsonage and additions to the church were completed in 1905.

Major remodeling and renovation programs were successful from 1954 to 1967, during which time a new charter, changing the name to the Methodist Church of Sewickley, became effective in 1965.

More recently, 1996 marked the completion of the $350,000 Clock Tower Restoration, which was supported by the church and community.
