Virtual Tour "I am your
Clock Tower, and for over one hundred years I have
sat quietly overlooking the village of
Sewickley. My clock has made some noise, as
its hammer struck the bell to mark the passing of
the hours, days, and years, but I've heard you say
that those were reassuring noises, so I won't
apologize. In 1882,
the folk of the Methodist Church paid to bring my
clock to town and it was their janitor who raised
the weights that made it work. When electricity
became available, it took the spotlight at night,
and its weights and pulleys were replaced by an
electric motor. Through the
years and the seasons I've stood proudly, been
struck by lightning, endured wind, sun, rain and
snow. I am still here, but I had begun to
feel an occasional drip, as the slate roof on my
steeple began to leak, the mortar around my bricks
become thin and the area around my clock faces
began to show their age. It was then that the
town folk, my special fans, stepped in with a plan
to save me. The funds were raised by the
community to restore me. The members
of the church and the citizens and merchants of
Sewickley have generously responded to my pleas for
help. Extensive repairs have been made to me and to
my clock so that, once again, I rise up proudly and
beautifully toward the sky. Church members
continue to work hard in order to raise funds for
my maintenance and to restore the lower part of the
tower to match the splendor of the upper
portion." This
historic landmark, with its bell and clock, dates
back to 1882. The tower was restored and
rededicated in1996 at a cost of $360,000 -- most of
which was donated by the good citizens of
Sewickley. Read about
