In today's culture, we seem to spend so much time working and helping others that we tend to neglect ourselves and our health. The Health & Wellness Ministry is designed to be a friendly reminder that God has given each of us one body---one vessel to care for here on earth---and it's our job to look after it.
Our mission statement reads, "The Sewickley United Methodist Church will positively encourage and support its staff and members to be active participants in fostering a healthy mind, body and spirit. We will help participants grow in their spiritual journey, offering support in various capacities to exercise the mind and nurture the body inside and out."
This nurturing has taken the form of group lectures, workshops, and classes about cooking and exercise. Some of our lectures, which are held in the church, have covered such topics as stress management, meditation, back health, the hazards of fast food, and stroke prevention. Our time is also well spent learning the joys and ease of organic cooking and mixing things up with new ways to exercise, like line dancing or jazz classes. The Health & Wellness blog, found below, is another source for recipes, tips, and motivational messages.
In the end, it is a time of fellowship and support for each other as we share a common goal: good health. Sandra Lane is the H&W coordinator; please reach out to her with any thoughts or suggestions for this ministry or the blog.
